On October 27, 2023, a regular meeting of the International Banking Council (IBC) took place at the Samarkand Regency Hotel (Samarkand, Uzbekistan).
At the opening of the meeting, Bakhtiyar Khamidov, General Director of the Association of Banks of Uzbekistan and Alexander Murychev, Chairman of the International Banking Council, Chairman of the FBA EAC Board, made welcoming speeches.
The event was in a combined format. The heads of eight foreign banking unions and associations attended the event.
The topic of the meeting was "Digital national currencies, the practice of using them as an issue instrument, settlement funds and attracting resources for industry and financial sectors of the economy."
Atabek Nasyrov, Deputy Director General of the Fintech Association of Uzbekistan moderated the meeting.
Yana Epifanova, Vice-President of the Association of Banks of Russia, Marat Baytokov, Head of FBA EAC Representative office in Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Association of Banks of Kazakhstan, and Maxim Grigoriev, CEO of the Fintech Association of Russia attended the discussion.
Summing up the discussion, Alexander Murychev noted the fact that digital financial resources are already the present, not the future, and invited the heads of banking unions and associations to share information about the progress and results of "pilot projects" conducted in different countries in order to present these materials to the regulators of the participating countries of the IBC.
the members of the IBC took part in the closed part of the event. Alexander Murychev made a report on the work of the Council over the past 3 years. At the meeting, the results of the absentee elections of the new leadership of the IBC were announced. According to the unanimous opinion of the Council members, Alexander Murychev was elected Chairman of the IBC, and Bakhtiyar Khamidov, General Director of the Association of Banks of Uzbekistan, was elected First Deputy. Svetlana Porskova was appointed Executive Secretary of the IBC.
The members of the IBC were recommended to make their proposals on the agenda of the next meeting of the IBC, the date and place of its holding.
Elena Berezovaya, FBA EAC Chief Executive Officer, represented the Association at the IBC meeting.
