On April 5 Irina Gorbulina, Head of the FBA EAC representative Office in Australia and New Zealand, took part in a virtual roundtable «Financing just and affordable energy transition in Asia-Pacific region».
The event was co-organized by the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), Asia-Pacific Financial Forum, Sustainable Finance Development Network and the Australian APEC Study Centre at RMIT.
The participants of the round table discussed the following issues:
-Energy market dynamics - current supply and demand situation and major trends.
-The challenges (technological, economic, social and political) of financing equitable and affordable energy transition to net zero.
-The way forward: financing equitable and affordable energy transition.
Presentations by roundtable participants touched upon the following topics: finding reliable sources of clean and affordable energy, equitably sharing the costs of transition to clean energy, meeting social development objectives during the energy transition, leveraging private financing sources and increasing access to financing for vulnerable countries, communities and sectors to ensure the energy transition.
Presenters focused on the role APEC can play in helping member economies achieve these goals.
The outcomes of the roundtable will be presented to the Sustainable Growth Working Group at the APEC Business Advisory Council conference in Brunei and will help develop recommendations for APEC finance ministers in 2023.
